Boomers’ Weekly Hip Hop Party Celebrates Longevity

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

For the past two years, Boomers bar has hosted a weekly hip hop party, where hundreds of hip hop heads from across the city come together to celebrate their love of the genre. When Joe Coburn started the weekly event, he never expected it to catch on the way it did.

Hip Hop has always had a bad reputation, and Coburn started his parties to attract true fans who were about the music, rather than violence or any other the other negative attributes that have unfair been attached to the Hip Hop Genre.

“I turn away rappers who talk about guns”, says Coburn. “If there is an incident, security is there. But the fans keep people in check, because they want to this going”.

It is inspiring to see that hip hop has been able forge a community in Las Vegas, a city that has rejected the musical style for decades. The event at Boomers brings this community together and celebrates its innovations and the talents of local hip hop artists.

At the two year anniversary that took place just last week, Coburn ensured that the part would be live, bringing together all aspects of hip hop. Graffitti artists were there, painting a mural, while breakdancers took centre stage to wow the crowd. Even some local hip hop legends were attendance, showing their support for this one-of-a-kind weekly event in hopes that it will see many more years of success.

Munch Bar Brings Something New to Vegas’ Culinary Culture

Friday, June 18th, 2010

When you think of Las Vegas, you normally think of 5-star restaurants and exclusive nightclubs, but famed chef Bryan Ogden is turning the culinary culture of the city on it’s head. His new restaurant, Munch Bar, is an homage to the greasy spoon restaurants of the 1950s with a bit of a gourmet twist.

Munch Bar’s decor is completely unique, with graffiti-splattered walls and a completely laid-back feel. Rather than the typical flashy and over-top-decor of most Las Vegas restaurants, Munch Bar makes you feel at home with welcoming wood benches and tables that look like they belong in highschool cafeterias.

But, appearances are deceiving. Upon opening the menu, you’ll discover that a wide array of gourmet dishes, rather than the typical greasy diner fare of hamburgers and french fries.

While there is a wide array of burgers (including chili, jalapeno and bleu cheese burgers), there are also some more interesting choices on the menus. ‘Munchies’ include grilled cheese sliders, fish tacos and Po Hoy, bringing a gourmet flare to the basic diner menu.

Munch Bar is sure to have a siginificant impact on Las Vegas’ dining scene and, before long, it will likely be one of the city’s new hot spots. With unique decor and a menu that you will probably never see anywhere else, Munch Bar is likely to become the only greasy spoon that you’ll ever need a reservation to get into.

Discreet Fun for Gentlemen

Monday, June 14th, 2010

The building that was previously home to Minxx strip club has now been transformed into an upscale strip club called Discreet Gentlemen’s Club.

The previous club was anything but discreet as there had been some highly publicized issues with the law back in 2007. The building stood empty for nearly 2 years until BMX superstar TJ Lavin and motocross superstar Carey Hart played an instrumental role in reviving it. New owners, management, staff and strong involvement from Lavin will give the gentlemen of Las Vegas a classy man’s club with no fuss.

Discretion is taken seriously at Discreet as cellphones and cameras are forbidden. On top of that, there’s all kinds of privacy out on the VIP floor with “discreet suites” that are private booths with smokey glass doors. The lounge also has partitions that have heavy chain mail curtains. For the guests that really want their privacy, VIP guests can arrive through a back door and use a private elevator to go on up to the private bar. Doesn’t get any better than that!

To keep things nice and easy, all credit card/ATM transactions will not have the location on it, and instead will say “Casino Advance.” So, no obvious paper trail!

The hours of operation are from 8pm-4am. Cash and all major credit cards are accepted, there is an on site ATM, dances will cost about $20, and there is self parking as well as valet parking.

Surrender Your Nights!

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Year old Encore Resort got a facelift recently. Steve Wynn, the owner of the Encore Resort transformed the entire front end of the resort into a night club/beach club hybrid, which boasts a 60,000 square feet of space.

The interior of the indoor space has an area of 5,000 square feet, and is decorated with bright yellow leather seating areas, leopard carpets, two stages with poles for the go go dancers who sport golden skirts and leopard-bikini’s, and a central bar that features one giant golden snake.

If the inside isn’t festive enough to get your party mood on, perhaps the outside will with it’s marble tabletops and orange pillows. It should also be mentioned that there are three pools with underwater lightshows that move to the music, palm trees that lend themselves to the beach vibe of Surrender, and private cabanas, which everyone loves to have.

Guests who stay at Encore Resort can book one of the eight two-story private bungalows complete with Strip views, and hot tubs. Sounds hot, right?

Surrender takes bottle service seriously, offering a range of alcohol and specialty cocktails. Their signature cocktail, the “I Surrender” sounds amazing, with its Grey Goose, Le Citron, wild hibiscus syrup, fresh mint, and lemon juice mix.

Encore Beach Club by day, and Surrender by night, Encore Resort is the place to be!
