Makeover for Plaza Casino

The Plaza Casino and Resort will be getting a modern makeover this year. In a strange twist on the normal Las Vegas renovation scheme, the vast majority of the Plaza’s new furniture will come from Fontainebleau – a strip resort that started construction but was never finished.

The renovations are expected to be completed by September 2011, at which time all of the casinos 1000 rooms will feature top-of-the-line bedroom furniture, carpet, tile and wallpaper. The Plaza was already scheduled for remodelling by the time the builders were informed that Fontainebleau’s decor was for sale – and it seemed like perfect timing.

“We already had budget and a plan so it was easy for us to take items we needed (to fit) the budget,” said Manager Tony Santo.

When asked how much the furnishings were, indeed, purchased for, he refused to comment. However, it is believed that The Plaza’s remodelling plan has come in well under-budget.

This will be a welcome change to the 39-year-old resort. While the management appreciates the clientele who enjoy the budget-hotel atmosphere of The Plaza, it is certainly time to update the decor and bring the hotel into the 21st century.
