The Hilton hotel chain has put the Las Vegas Hilton on notice that it intends to terminate its license agreement with the casino Jan. 1, which would force the property to give up the name it has held since the 1970s. Las Vegas Hilton was built by Kirk Kerkorian in 1969, and went through many owners. The current owners are now Colony Capital, which bought the property back in 2004.
In 2009, there was an agreement that licensed the right to use the Hilton “Brand” and the ties and links of other various Hilton things. This agreement drawn up also allowed for either party to terminate this agreement at any time, for any reason.
Spokesman for the Las Vegas Hilton, Owen Blicksilver has said that the property may get a new affiliation before the end of the year, and that not all may be lost in negotiating a new license agreement with Hilton. Either way, the notification has not negatively affected the hotel, guests, or staff.
Who knows, by this time next year, the Las Vegas Hilton will have a new name.
