Companies Rush For Online Poker Licenses

Companies can now start applying for their licenses to operate online poker sites in Nevada. So far, five companies have been identified from the Nevada Gaming Control Board public records. The following companies are the five applicants: 888 Holdings, International Game Technology (IGT), Bally Technologies, Cantor Gaming and South Point Poker. The race is on for who will be rewarded their licenses first, and it could be one of them at a time, or all of them at once. Either way, these companies are aiming to be ready to go when the time comes that they can actually run and operate an online poker site in the state of Nevada.

Interestingly enough, companies have the option to apply for three different licenses, and although they have the option, only one of them is reported to be applying for all three. The licenses that can be applied for are manufacturer, distributor and service provider. The company applying for all three is 888 US Ltd.

There are two companies applying for their manufacturer and service provider licenses. International Game Technology (IGT) is one of those companies, and they have a competitive edge over the other applicants as they acquired Entraction some time ago. Bally Technology is the other company that applied for their manufacturer and service provider licenses. Since Bally Technology’s home base is in Las Vegas, they have the home team advantage, and maybe actually have a better sense of the market since they live in the gambling capital of Nevada.

Cantor Gaming is reportedly the only company applying for one license, and they are applying for service provider.

South Point Poker may have joined the licenses rush, but it is unclear which ones they have applied for. One thing for sure is that they do want to be an online poker operator.

Once regulations have been sorted and ironed out, there number of applicants will increase significantly.
