Beach Boys Surfing To Las Vegas!

Friday, June 22nd, 2012

The Beach Boys are on their 50th anniversary reunion tour, and surfing along is a musical featuring their greatest hits.

The musical, called “Surf the Musical” is about a surfer’s adventures, with a 90 minute show production, and 35 Beach Boys songs in total. The musical will begin its previews on Friday at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, and officially open on July 17th for a run. No ending date has been announced yet.

The show will feature a live band, and classic favourites like “Surfin USA” and “Good Vibrations.”

The storyline is about a surfer who leaves his beach town in California for another city, and ends up regretting it, and going back home to what he misses and loves: the wves, the boards, and a woman.

A fan of the band since the Beach Boys came onto the scene, this is a dream come true for 69 year old producer, J. Burton Gold. Gold wanted to produce something amazing, and he ended up licensing the stage rights for a lot of Beach Boys songs for the show, and also brought on the Tony-nominated director of the hit Broadway musical “Rock of Ages”, Kristin Hanggi.

Gold saw the band live recently in May on their reunion tour, and enjoyed it. He commented that he wanted “Surf the Musical” to honor and deliver the music, without over styling the production.

Las Vegas Company Launches Free Poker Game

Wednesday, June 20th, 2012

It looks like free online gambling is coming to Las Vegas!

The owners of Station Casinos are launching their own free online gaming site, and they are kicking things off with a free poker game called Ultimate Poker.

It was announced yesterday by Fertitta Interactive that they would be launching Ultimate Poker this Friday. The foray into this type of gambling is a move that Fertitta Interactive is making to benefit from in the long run. The company plans on applying for licences in the U.S. when online gambling becomes legalized. When this does happen, they hope to offer their players real money play as well as free play. In the mean time though, building up players is all they can do.

The game will be launched on popular social netowkring site, Facebook. Facebook offers a lot of social gaming, and of course, all the games are free. Fertitta Interactive hopes that by having this game available on the popular site, it will become popular, and in turn, eventually attract real money players.

It looks like many online gambling casinos and online casino game software developers are heading towards social gaming. Facebook is especially a popular site for social gaming, and although players do not win money, they can win prizes sometimes.

Cutback On Library Hours In North Las Vegas

Monday, June 18th, 2012

Starting this summer, library hours in North Las Vegas will be cut back, due to budget cuts. According to library director, Kathy Pinnell, four employees are being laid off to help close a $310,000 deficit, and as a result of this, the library hours are now going from a total of 47 hours a week to 37 hours a week.

The new library hours at the following libraries are as follows:

Alexander Library, 1755 W. Alexander Road

Monday, Tuesday and Sunday: Closed

Wednesday and Thursday: Open 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Friday and Saturday: Open 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Aliante Library, 2400 Deer Springs Way

Monday through Thursday: Open 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Friday and Sunday: Closed

Saturday: Open 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The library district operates from a special fund, and funding comes mainly from property tax and library fines. Since property tax has declined in the past few years, funding has not been the same.

It’s unfortunate that these libraries are cutting back their house so much. Prior to the recession, libraries in North Ls Vegas would be open around 63 hours a week. Now it’s going from 47 hours a week to just 37 hours.

The new hours will be in effect as of July 1st.
