Beach Boys Surfing To Las Vegas!
The Beach Boys are on their 50th anniversary reunion tour, and surfing along is a musical featuring their greatest hits.
The musical, called “Surf the Musical” is about a surfer’s adventures, with a 90 minute show production, and 35 Beach Boys songs in total. The musical will begin its previews on Friday at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, and officially open on July 17th for a run. No ending date has been announced yet.
The show will feature a live band, and classic favourites like “Surfin USA” and “Good Vibrations.”
The storyline is about a surfer who leaves his beach town in California for another city, and ends up regretting it, and going back home to what he misses and loves: the wves, the boards, and a woman.
A fan of the band since the Beach Boys came onto the scene, this is a dream come true for 69 year old producer, J. Burton Gold. Gold wanted to produce something amazing, and he ended up licensing the stage rights for a lot of Beach Boys songs for the show, and also brought on the Tony-nominated director of the hit Broadway musical “Rock of Ages”, Kristin Hanggi.
Gold saw the band live recently in May on their reunion tour, and enjoyed it. He commented that he wanted “Surf the Musical” to honor and deliver the music, without over styling the production.
