Summerlin Centre To Be Revamped

The mothballed retail district in northwest Las Vegas, known as the Shops at Summerlin Centre, are going to be undergoing a serious makeover in the next couple of years it seems, after Howard Hughes Corporation has hinted at it.

Howard Hughes Corporation is a Dallas-based developer, and has said that in a regulatory filing, the company executives would give be giving a slideshow presentation to analysts and investors on Thursday at the St. Regis hotel in New York. In the slideshow presentation, there are renderings of a Summerlin Centre with “coming soon” on it.

This news comes after almost seven months of CEO, Howard Hughes saying in a letter to shareholders that the Summerlin Centre is “one of our key strategic projects.” During this time, he also said that the company expected to announce this year the construction start date and the target opening date of the project.

Rumours have been spreading in the real estate community that the project will be located just south of Red Rock Resort, which will be completed soon enough. There are however many questions that are still unanswered.

Construction stopped on the project in 2008, which left the steel skeleton exposed to the elements. Many people are now wondering if the steel rods need to be replaced or upgraded. Executives have said that because of the valley’s low humidity levels, any possible exposure-related damage would be minimal.
