It looks like everyone wants to put a casino in Toronto, especially the big boys of Las Vegas. The latest development is that Onex Corporation, which has four casinos in Canada already, as well as owns and operates the Tropicana hotel and casino in Las Vegas has thrown their bid into the hat to build a casino in Toronto.

Gerald Schwartz, the head of Onex and also one of Canada’s most wealthiest people has spoken to The Globe and Mail. Schwartz is known as one of Canada’s most most prolific deal-makers, so it’s interesting to see what he has to say.

Speaking to The Globe and Mail, Schwartz said that Onex Corporation is familiar with casino operations, and the important of customer service alongside that. Speaking in regards to Ontario’s lottery corporation plans for a new GTA casino, Schwartz said Onex Corporation would “definitely be interested in one or more locations. It’s a growth market.”

Schwartz has said it is too early for Onex to discuss the potential proposal, as the proposed locations are not known, and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) have not revealed any details yet.

It will be interesting to see how this unfolds, after all, it’s not just Onex Corporation that wants to build a casino in the GTA, it’s also Caesars Entertainment and MGM Resorts International.
