Kentucky Derby In Las Vegas

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Horse racing is one of those sporting events that often gets overlooked in Las Vegas. With so many other sporting events going on throughout the year, it’s understandable. This weekend though, horse racing will be front and center, with the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby from Churchill Downs happens. This will be a prime attraction for many casinos this Saturday afternoon.

Dan Shapiro, who oversees racing for Lucky’s Race and Sports Books commented on Derby week, saying “Derby week is always going to be a big one here,” adding on “The handle is great. Saturday will be our biggest (racing) day of the year, but it carries over all week.”

Shapiro also reported that action during Derby week has gone up in the past few years. One of the many reasons as to why the Derby has gained popularity is that there is an increase in the interest of the horses. It probably does not hurt that this is a different kind of attraction.

Lucky’s Race runs books at The D Las Vegas, the Riviera, the Plaza and Terrible’s. They are one of the first shops in Las Vegas to put out future odds on the Kentucky Derby as well. Even though the Derby is this weekend, numbers were posted on the odds of prospective horses 6 months ago.

Place your bets this weekend at the Kentucky Derby!

Digital World Expo Coming To Vegas

Friday, April 13th, 2012

The Digital World Expo is coming to Las Vegas! The annual tech-marketing conference connects the nation’s top digital marketers and tech professionals, and serves as a major event to discuss and learn about evolving digital formats, as well as release dates. This year, the Digital World Expo will be held in the Fall, on September 27 to the 29th, at the Mirage Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. At this conference, there will be plenty happening, with workshops being held, keynotes, media events, interactive exhibits, and even “how to” educational experiences.

Over the three day conference, there will be over 50 courses and over 70 speakers that will present information related to the industry. Topics like digital audience, programming languages and development, emerging technologies and future perspectives will be just some of the things talked about. This may be a professional convention, but even novices in the industry will enjoy and learn quite a lot of things that are relevant to the field, including gamification, iOS development, behavioral targeting, analytics, jQuery, mobile marketing, social media, app discovery, UI /UX, cloud computing and more.

The best thing about this convention is that it is free. Exhibit hall entry is free of charge so long as you register in advance. Workshops, meals and social events will cost money though. For more information, check out www.digitalworldexpo.com or call 702-478-6777.

Primm Valley Lotto Store Rammed

Friday, March 30th, 2012

Yesterday morning, the Primm Valley Lotto Store on the California-Nevada border was rammed. By 11:30 a.m., the line stretched out to more than 1,000 people. The store opened at 8 a.m., but that did not stop Las Vegans from turning up at 6 a.m. to start lining up. By late morning, the wait time in line was 4 hours.

So what’s the big deal? Well, the big deal is a massive jackpot that is going to be won tonight. This is no ordinary jackpot, as it is the largest Mega Millions jackpot in history to date, to the tune of $540 million. Tickets are only $1, and customers bought plenty of tickets. One such customer was Reinaldo Nunley, a Greyhound bus driver. He bought 56 Mega Millions lottery tickets at the Primm Valley Lotto Store.

So why the big rush? Well, for one thing, the lottery numbers of this massive jackpot will be announced tonight, and for another, since lottery tickets are not sold in Nevada, residents of Las Vegas that want to play and have a chance to win have to buy their tickets at the Primm Valley Lotto Store on the California-Nevada border.

Tickets will stop being sold by 7:45 p.m. tonight, so for those looking to buy tickets, make a mad dash for the border, because chances are, the line up today will be even longer.
